The Science of EPOC

Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) is the physiological mechanism where your body works to restore itself to its pre-exercise state (cooling down, repairing tissues, replenishing energy). Because HIIT challenges both the anaerobic and aerobic pathways, it produces a substantially larger EPOC effect than steady-state cardio.

Weekly Progression Guide

  • Week 1-2: Establish form. Pay attention to squat depth and plank alignment. Rest completely during rest intervals.
  • Week 3-4: Increase tempo. Try to perform more repetitions inside the active work windows while maintaining control.
