Understanding Mobility vs. Flexibility
Flexibility is the passive ability of a muscle to lengthen. Mobility is the active control of a joint through its range of motion. Having high flexibility but low strength and control over that range is a major driver of injury. This program builds strength at the end-ranges of motion.
Weekly Progression
- Week 1-2: Focus on breathing. Exhale as you move into the stretch, allowing your nervous system to relax.
- Week 3-4: Slowly increase the range of motion. For static holds, try to actively engage the opposing muscle (e.g., squeeze your glutes during the hip flexor stretch).
Frequently Asked Questions
No. You should feel a mild, comfortable stretch or dynamic pull, but never sharp, shooting, or pinching pain. If a movement hurts, decrease the range of motion or consult a professional.
Yes, this program is perfect as a warm-up. It wakes up stabilizer muscles and increases range of motion. Only do 1 set of each exercise if using it as a pre-workout warm-up.
